Online Distribution has reached virtually every hotel. Whilst hotel chains usually leave this field up to the experts and larger properties engage professional services to manage it, many smaller properties are still not using this instrument to their best advantage. Confusing as it may be, small and simple steps can often make a vast difference and increase online bookings considerably.
The aim of these measures must be to attract new business via GDSs, OTAs and the different booking channels and to push returning guests to booking directly – without the extra commission costs to the hotel.
Hotels, therefore, do well to strengthen their direct marketing, e.g. with an attractive website. The homepage must always be kept up-to-date with offers and content alike, as “content is king”. They should also consider on-page optimizing methods, such as using keywords and clever layouts that draw attention to important text passages and links. Another must: to ensure readability on tablets and smartphones. Once the client has pressed the “book now”-button, provide a well-structured and easy to follow navigation through the booking process, including special arrangements and offer additional services.
Social networks bring about a host of possibilities to influence booking decisions. Establishing Facebook and Twitter accounts is easy and regular posts are quickly incorporated in a daily or weekly routine, as are blogs and newsgroups. Travelling tips, recipes and prize draws are interesting extras for potential guests, while review portals offer a chance to reply to guest comments.
Another advantage of direct marketing is packaging: OTAs and booking channels usually offer one rate and no extras. The hotel-controlled booking platform can do a lot more by selling different rates and packages and by providing alternate options for different target markets. Upselling and advertising additional services (e.g. restaurant and spa facilities) are further points to be considered.

The international hotel chain Karisma has recently decided to install SIHOT in all its 14 hotels and auto camps in the coming months. Presently and just before the start of the summer season, SIHOT is being installed in all of the Croatian properties of the chain. “This is a fantastic project,” says GUBSE’s Director of International Sales, David Warren. “Karisma incorporates properties in Mexico, the Caribbean, Columbia and Croatia, ranging from 4 to 5 star hotels. Tip 1: Contact person
You can enter a comment of the type contact person in the profile of the contact person. This comment is then shown in the contact person tab in the company profile.
Tip 2: BAR-level
The setting which BAR-level applies on which day can be entered either in the master file menu or directly on the sales rack. Simply highlight the respective period and enter the level with the prefix “B”. In addition, you will be asked if this level should apply to the highlighted category only or to all categories.
